Shortly before Christmas Fordwater School in Chichester celebrated the arrival of a shipping container supplied free of charge by JC Portable Site Accommodation Ltd of Chichester.  This might seem an unlikely event to celebrate but the school is desperately short of funding and didn’t have the spare funds to replace their obsolete storage shed.  This generous gift will make a big impact on the school as the container provides clean and secure storage space which will ensure that the school’s special needs equipment is maintained in good working order.

The installation of the container was quite an event with the unit being craned into position from Blomfield Road.  The operation required the road to be closed for a short while and with help from local volunteers they were able to complete the task with seconds to spare before the next bus was due to pass.  The school is very grateful to Danny Mears Transport Ltd, the local residents of Graylingwell Park, Stagecoach Bus Company and the local volunteers.

Fordwater school teaches and cares for some of our most vulnerable children, many of whom have severe and complex learning difficulties.  Many of the children need access to a lot of additional support equipment which requires suitable storage and with increasing numbers of children coming into the school, the demand on space has become critical.

Ideally the school could do with not just more storage but also classrooms; urgently required is a redevelopment of the early years department, built as a temporary facility many years ago.

In the meantime, this kind gift is gratefully received and the children are looking forward to getting their paintbrushes out to give the container a colourful identity reflecting the wonderful character of the school.
